The Red Leaves Of Runnymede
A visit to 19th century Runnymede Estate in Hobart is both educational and alluring. The gardens there are also enthralling, and one plant in particular captured my interest for its dazzling display. Staring into the foliage, occasional glimpses of yellow and green were intersected by the charcoal stained branches. Yet the overwhelming feeling was a deep comfortable warmth created by the dominant flourish of glossy red leaves. As an abstract this work would match with the cabernet sauvignon of a dining room, or the glowing embers of a lounge room fireplace.
