Erected along the relatively new road from Sydney to Bathurst about 1840, the modest Old Inn would have been a welcome respite after a weary day on horseback or aboard a dusty horse-drawn coach. The single level brick structure is covered in the ubiquitous but weathered roofing iron, and features an extended post supported verandah. The sandstone hue of the facade casts a profuse amber glow, with the alternately opening doors and windows revealing its purpose as a lodging house. Although long abandoned, one can still imagine the innkeeper stepping out from the front door to welcome his guests by announcing, “the ale is cold, the fire is crackling and dinner will be served in 15 minutes!”
