'Isle Verde Beach', Puerto Rico (2018) by Tracy Rockwell

Meet the Artist

Tracy Rockwell is a Sydney based visual artist with a multi-disciplinary background. He is inspired by the work of the great impressionists and has resided in both the USA and Europe. Tracy continues to travel widely to gain inspiration and add to his expanding collection of photographs and contemporary impressionistic works of art.

“I’ve been an amateur photographer since receiving my very first Olympus camera. Over the years I’ve developed an affinity with the essential elements of photography and have always taken great pleasure in experimenting with light and subject, as well as the composition of my images. In the process I’ve developed quite a collection. Recent developments in digital technology have presented opportunities to transform my images into works of art. A great deal of experimentation mixed with inspiration from fellow photographers and artists has led me to create the unique images you see in my portfolio.”

The interpretation of these works is of course up to each individual, but there is an honesty and appeal to these impressionistic pieces that is difficult to achieve through photography alone.

Impressionist Art

Impressionism grew out of a 19th-century art movement characterised by relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities (often vibrant, and accentuating the effects of the passage of time), and often just ordinary subject matter. Impressionism originated with a group of Paris-based artists whose independent exhibitions brought them to prominence during the 1870’s and 1880’s.

Radicals in their own time, early Impressionists violated the rules of academic painting. They constructed their pictures from freely brushed colours that took precedence over lines and contours. They also painted realistic scenes of modern life, and often painted outdoors. Previously, still lifes and portraits as well as landscapes were usually painted in a studio. The Impressionists found that they could capture the momentary and transient effects of sunlight by painting outdoors. They portrayed overall visual effects instead of details, and used short ‘broken’ brush strokes of mixed and pure unmixed colour, not blended smoothly or shaded as was customary at the time, to achieve an effect of intense vibrant colour.

Tracy is available for commissions and collaborations, with both properties and portraits making especially fine subjects. If you have a particular project, theme, colour palette, style or size of artwork in mind, please email to discuss your ideas at info@tracyrockwell.com.

Unless otherwise agreed, commissions are generally arranged via email. Tracy can work with you to create a brief for your project that outlines the dimensions, feel, framing and delivery requirements. Both parties sign off on specifications of the brief prior to commencing any commissioned work. A 25% deposit is normally required upon commencement of the piece with the balance due in full prior to delivery.

Multi-Panelled Works

From time to time, I feature polyptychs, which are great solutions for designers and interior decorators. A polyptych is a work of art that is divided into sections or panels. Specifically, a ‘diptych’ is a two-part work of art; a ‘triptych’ is a three-part work; a tetraptychor quadriptych has four parts; pentaptych five; hexaptych six; heptaptych (or septych in Latin) seven; and octaptych eight parts. Polyptychs typically display one central or main panel that may be the largest of the attachments, while the other panels are called side panels or wings.

Care and Maintenance

  • Handle your print only by the edges. The oil from your fingers can affect the PH of the paper and reduce the archival qualities. Fingerprints on dark areas will show up as sheen.
  • Avoid bending your print as a crease will become permanent.
  • When you receive your print, carefully remove all packaging tape as even the smallest piece can find its way onto your print and damage the surface.
  • Keep your print away from moisture, condensation and humidity. Although our inks are water resistant, water can still cause damage. A water drop on the print will be permanently visible even when dry.
  • If possible, allow a few days for your print to breathe and the inks to dry completely before framing.
  • Select only archival (acid-free) frames. Wood frames treated with chemicals or paints can omit harmful gases that can attack the ink and paper.
  • Providing you keep your print free of dust, moisture and direct sunlight, it should last for many years.

Don’t use any sort of cleaning liquid or compound, ever. A static-electricity dusting cloth can be used with a light motion, or a vacuum with a brush attachment can be used gently to remove dust.

If you hang your print away from direct sunlight and keep it away from moisture and dust, your canvas print will last for years and look as stunning as it did on day one.

We use only the highest quality Australian-made gallery grade materials. Our frames are made from kiln-dried timber and primed to stand the test of time.

Refunds & Returns

Once your artwork arrives, if you’re not happy just contact us. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products and so each print comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. We understand that when you get your purchase home, it may not look like you thought it would in the space you were thinking of hanging it. Therefore, we offer our customers a 7 day return period on artworks from the time the purchaser receives delivery of their artwork should you change your mind*. In this case, the purchaser must email us their request to return the art.

We fully guarantee our prints during the shipping process, so if yours arrives a little bumped and bruised, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. If your print arrives damaged, just let us know us and we’ll exchange or replace your print for another one of your choice (to the same value).

All that we ask is that the artwork be repackaged as it was when delivered to you, and we will arrange for the work to be picked up and returned. The cost of return shipping will be covered by the purchaser and subtracted from the refunded amount once the art has been delivered to us. If the art is returned in a condition less than when it was sent originally, the purchaser will have the cost subtracted from their refund. If you have any further questions regarding this policy please contact us at…

NB: * The 7 day return period doesn’t apply to Limited Edition prints as these are considered Final Sale due to the nature of the product.
